This summer, #ReachfortheMagic travel advisor Katie Kaderabek, completed the Certified Autism Travel Professional program through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Educations Standards (IBCCES). This program was created to help travel professionals assist families with special needs prepare for their vacations.
Here's what Katie had to share about completing the program...
My name is Katie and I recently became a Certified Autism Travel Professional. I have worked in the Special Education field for the past 15 years, specifically within the Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Autism communities so obtaining a certificate was a no brainer to me. I have been passionate about travel for as long as I can remember. I have been going to Walt Disney World and Universal Studios Orlando since I was 5 years old and throughout my time in Special Education, I noticed myself focusing more on how these places are accessible to those with different abilities. This made me realize that travel is becoming more and more accessible, and that not everyone is aware of the accommodations available to them. I have made it my focus to learn all there is about accessibility and travel and can not wait to continue to learn more as I grow within my business.
Going through this training, there was a lot of information I already knew. Touching back with sensory difficulties, changes in schedules and more. Going through this process I was able to learn about everything airports and companies have to offer. I was also able to learn about things I personally have not though about before such as seating on the airplane, and specific accommodations for service animals on flights.
This training had me go through a variety of scenarios and outcomes to be able to better assist you and your unique needs! I am so excited to continue to grow and learn more throughout this process and can not wait to start planning magical and accessible vacations!
