Walt Disney World: Non-Park Days
When you think of Walt Disney World, do you think of theme park vacation only, being exhausted and long days? This does not have to be the case! There are so many non-park related options besides a pool day at the resort nd things to do to make your time so much more enjoyable! The theme parks are amazing, but it’s also great to take a rest day and simply a non-park day to be able to enjoy the things that Walt Disney World has to offer!
To start off with a few ideas for non-park days, one of my personal favorites is mini golf! There are two different Walt Disney World mini golf locations. One is called Fantasia Gardens which is near the Swan and Dolphin Resorts and the other is Winter Summerland near Disney’s Blizzard Beach. Each location has two different style courses, an easier course, and a harder course. We took the easier route both times! Fantasia Gardens is full of fun and whimsical statues and music with a few surprises along the way. Winter Summerland has two different courses, one winter vibe and one summer vibe. We went the winter route, and it was so much fun! You can call ahead of time to make your reservations; I recommend doing this! Did you know if you have a Walt Disney World resort package, this can be included for no additional cost when collecting your Magical Extras Card from the front desk? This is a fun way to enjoy a non-park day on vacation!
Disney Springs is a great location to go and shop, eat, and enjoy! There is lots to see and do at Disney Springs. Two of my favorite restaurants would be The Boathouse and Chef Art Smiths Homecomin’. There are so many wonderful food choices here, you cannot go wrong! Our favorite store at Walt Disney World is located here inside World of Disney, it’s a great way to come home with some souvenirs. Disney Springs also has an impressive night life for those who want to stay out a tad later and enjoy some music, drinks, dinner, and fun!
Character Dining is always an excellent choice for a non-parkday. Other resort table service dining is also great to look intoand I always recommend making reservations ahead of time! Character dining will give you the ultimate feel of being at Walt Disney World without being inside of the theme parks. One of my favorite character dining meals is Ohana inside of the Polynesian Resort. Another would be a table service, Sanaa, over at Animal Kingdom Lodge. This is additionally another way to check out some beautiful deluxe resorts!
Lastly, a water park! Sure, this is still going to be a busy day and at a park, but not a theme park! Water parks have a way of being as busy or calm as you make it! Disney features two water parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Check to see which one is available ahead of your vacation and book tickets through your travel agent before you arrive! Water parks are a great way to cool down in that summer or fall heat! We personally loved Blizzard Beach in October, minimum wait times and it was still blazing hot, so we were happy to have a water park day!
When planning your next Walt Disney World vacation, I urge you to look further beyond just theme parks and enjoy a non-park day as well! Try something new, eat somewhere different, explore a new resort... the options are endless! Talk with your travel agent about what you enjoy doing and let them give you some advice on how to build in a non park day work for you on your next vacation!
